Blog Entry #3

What is Social Network System? ” Social networking is the practice of expanding the number of one’s business and/or social contacts by making connection through individuals.” (Margaret,2015) Nowadays, many people spend time with their mobiles and computers. In fact, they spend most of their time having a look through their own social network systems such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. These are the social networking systems and they bring you many kinds of entertainment and delightful fun. However, if you step backwards and change your perspective these could be the most efficient and effective way of marketing. Thus, a lot of business people are already using social networking system as a main source of marketing. Today’s blog will introduce you about different kinds of features which are located in social networking system, and how they are suitable for marketing strategies.

  1. Facebook

Facebook

Facebook is probably the most well known social networking system around the world. “Facebook is a big hit phenomenon in the world of internet” (LinVio, 2010). You might hear a lot from mates or colleagues saying “If you do not have a Facebook account, you are still stuck in 1980’s”. This is how much Facebook is popular around the world, and it is one of the must have items to communicate with others in our current society. Facebook has many different kinds of features from games to chatting system. As it gets so famous, they have started to add on side features. Normally, Facebook was developed by a young man called Mark Zuckerberg. The main goal for the Facebook was to link up everyone around the world by creating their own profile page. After he reached his goal his did not change his basic theme but he added on some new features. Now you can have a chat with your friends on-line through your mobile and computer on Facebook. Also, they have updated gaming page as well. In fact, Facebook is the most famous source of business marketing strategy. It is a good location to promote and advertise your own brand and business as a lot people can like or leave a comment which can become a issue for everyone. You can upload specific images and information about your business as well. As Facebook has convenient accessibility, and simple theme. It could become a main source for business marketing strategy.

2. Instagram

Instagram

Instagram would be as well known as Facebook, but at the same time would not be as well known as Facebook as well. Instagram focuses only on the images and pictures that users upload on to their page.”You can take pictures within the app or use photos that already exist in your camera roll.” (Kelly Lux, 2011) Compared to Facebook, it is much simpler and easier. Not like Facebook, Instagram makes you to express yourself with the pictures, which can be very limited to give out information. The system works out quite same with Facebook. People can like your images or leave a comment on it. Based on your likes and comments, your followers in other words, web friends will be able to see the posts and get updates from Instagram. Instagram does not have any added on features, but this is a great advantage of Instagram as people only focuses on one thing. Also, the hashtag would be the most famous feature for Instagram. If someone hashtag on certain topic, for example, if you want to know more about it or want your image to get categorized, you simply use the # and tag your own topic. A lot of fashion brands and businesses open up their page on Instagram and show their pictures and images. In fact, they use the hashtag to draw more attention and likes from other users. It basically works out this, they take photo of their own business or brand, then upload on the Instagram. After that, if the followers and other unknown users like the posts, it will get popular so that everyone follows your page and become your fan. Instagram would be suitable for business which has a lot of things to show such as fashion brands, or restaurants.

3. Snapchat

Snapchat

Snapchat is a newly arousing social networking system.”Snapchat is unique in that all photos and videos only last a brief amount of time before they disappear forever, making the app ephemeral in nature, though users can take a screenshot to save snaps.” (Elyse Betters,2015) A lot of investors and potential users are keeping their eye on to it. If you walk on the roads these days, you would be a lot of people taking selfies or taking photos. In fact, Snapchat enables you to upload the photos that you want straight away to your account. If you worry about the security on your privacy, you do not have to worry. Snapchat has its strong advantage of having a high security. Users can set up the certain times that others can see through their photos. In comparison with Facebook and Instagram where you cannot really protect yourself from other unknown users, Snapchat gives you better protection. In addition, if you do not have people’s account name or phone number, you cannot search them or find them. It has totally different theme compared to Facebook and Instagram. Snapchat has my story page. This is the place where you upload your own photo streams. In fact, business people can  use this feature as their strategy. Normally, people but their snapchat ID on Instagram or Facebook or you can even contact Snapchat and get permission to get your business page on the top with other showing business and entertainment features. Snapchat would not be as efficient and effective as Instagram or Facebook, but if the business is aiming for young adults or teenagers, they should make a page on Snapchat.

To sum up, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are all developed based on the Internet. In fact, they have similar but different features. If the business want to focus more about information, Facebook should be suitable. However, if the business has lots of features and photos to show to the customers, Snapchat and Instagram would do their job. In addition, advertising on these social networking system will definitely improve the business’s status and its position.

  1. Great post about the vast types of Internet social media strategies. What was most stimulating about this post was how you compared Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, and how they are all similar but possess different features and benefits for the user. 🙂
